Description

1862 Seated Dollar, PR63 Cameo
Just 1 in 14 Achieve Cameo Status

1862 $1 PR63 Cameo NGC. OC-P2, High R.3. Apricot surfaces contain significant remaining mirroring. Design elements are exactly defined throughout both sides. Two die marriages exist, sharing an obverse die and using different reverses, neither of which were carried over to future years. In 1862, proof mintages continued to decline as a result of the Civil War, from a peak of 1,330 in 1860 to 1,000 in 1861 to just 550 in 1862. Cameo certifications are the exception, not the norm, with just 15 of 206 NGC certifications bearing any level of Cameo contrast (12/25).(Registry values: N2998)
