Description
Gem Proof 1862 Seated Liberty Dollar
Spectacular Toning
1862 $1 PR65 NGC. The government suspended specie payments
in 1862, due to financial uncertainty occasioned by the Civil War,
and proof coins were only available through a costly and time
consuming ordering procedure. Vividly toned in iridescent shades of
golden-brown and violet, this extraordinary Gem is one of the
finest survivors of the tiny proof mintage of 550 pieces. Pinpoint
definition is evident on all design elements, and only the tiniest
imperfections can be detected in the reflective fields. Census: 13
in 65, 8 finer (9/10).(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 252G, PCGS# 7005, Greysheet# 7310)
