Description

1862 Seated Dollar, PR66 Cameo
Delightful Rim Toning
Extremely Rare This Fine

1862 $1 PR66 Cameo NGC. OC-P1. While the proof 1862 silver dollar is available in the absolute sense -- despite a limited mintage of 550 pieces -- Cameo examples are rare across all grades. When seen, Cameos typically grade no finer than PR64. At the Gem and finer Cameo levels, a trio of PR65s (two at NGC, one at PCGS), a pair of PR66 NGC pieces, and a sole PR67 NGC coin comprise the reported Condition Census. Of these, one or more may be duplicate submissions.

The present Premium Gem Cameo displays a full strike and modest contrast with deep mirroring in the fields. Vivid rainbow toning surrounds the peripheries in tight rings, while the interiors exhibit soft champagne color. A small fleck near star 2 serves as a pedigree identifier. Truly a rare coin in this lofty Cameo grade.(Registry values: N7079)
