Description

Lushly Toned PR66 1862 Silver Dollar

1862 $1 PR66 NGC. Splashes of aquamarine, honey, and fire-red invigorate this needle-sharp Premium Gem. Essentially pristine, although a few criss-cross lines are visible on the field beneath the eagle's beak. These were on the planchet prior to the strike, and have no effect upon the technical grade. Among the finest survivors, and the attractive multi-color toning only adds to its appeal. A mere 550 proofs were struck for this Civil War date. NGC has certified 10 pieces as PR66 and only two finer, a PR66 Cameo and a PR67 Cameo. PCGS has not certified any examples in grades above PR65 (5/08).(Registry values: N7079)
