Description

Premium Gem Proof 1862 Seated Dollar

1862 $1 PR66 NGC. The financial pressures of the Civil War brought about the suspension of specie payments in 1862, increasing the expense and difficulty of ordering proof sets during that era. Only 550 proof Seated Liberty dollars were struck, and some of them may have been melted. In addition, only 11,540 business-strike dollars were produced, putting significant date-collector pressure on the small supply of proofs. The 1862 is always in demand in today's market.
This example is a spectacular Premium Gem with sharply detailed design elements throughout and pristine, deeply mirrored fields. The surfaces are blanketed in attractive shades of champagne-gold and cerulean-blue toning. Eye appeal is terrific. Census: 9 in 66 (2 in 66+), 0 finer (11/12).
