Description

1863 Seated Dollar, PR64 Cameo
Fully Struck

1863 $1 PR64 Cameo PCGS. CAC. The proof dollars of 1863 had a reported mintage of 460 pieces and can be located through near-Gem without too much difficulty. Examples with cameo format are another matter, evidenced by the fewer number certified by PCGS and NGC.
Isolated dapples of lavender and sky-blue cling to the margins of this PR64 Cameo, slightly more so on the reverse. Deeply mirrored fields yield strong contrast with the satiny devices, all of which are exacting struck. Magnification brings out occasional hairlines in the fields that are intermixed with die polish lines. Population: 12 in 64 Cameo, 3 finer (11/11).
