Description

Sharp Gem Proof Cameo 1864 Seated Dollar

1864 $1 PR65 Cameo NGC. The 1864 Seated dollar saw a production of 470 proofs, a fair number of which survive today. Indeed, NGC and PCGS combined report more than 300 certified examples. Only about 25 proofs have been assigned the Cameo designation, however. The current PR65 Cameo displays near white-on-black contrast and is essentially devoid of toning, save for the merest suggestion of golden rim toning. The strike is simply outstanding, manifesting itself in bold detail on Liberty's head, the stars, and the eagle's feathers. A few wispy handling marks prevent an even higher grade. Interesting lint marks are noted on Liberty's left hand and arm. Census: 4 in 65, 3 finer (8/08).(Registry values: N4719)
