Rarely Seen 1864 Seated Dollar, PR65 Cameo

1864 $1 Seated Dollar PR65 Cameo PCGS. Even though 30,700 business strike dollars were officially struck in 1864, there are only a tiny fraction of that number available today for collectors because of wartime hoarding and exporting. The difficulty in locating an 1864 is further compounded by the limited mintage of proofs, only 470 pieces were struck. Thus, the 1864 in either format is an absolute rarity. This is one of the very few Gem proofs available with cameo contrast. Both services combined have only certified six Gems, and NGC is the only service to have graded two coins finer (8/10). This spectacular dollar has lovely, deeply mirrored fields with nicely frosted, contrasting devices. Exceptional overall quality.
