Description

1866 Seated Dollar, PR64
Original, Lightly Toned Surfaces, CAC
First-Year Motto Proof

1866 $1 Motto PR64 NGC. CAC. OC-P2, R.3. Osburn-Cushing Die State a/a. Smooth, mirrored fields display dappled grayish-blue toning accents amid original, pale-gold patina, giving this near-Gem Motto dollar excellent eye appeal. The transitional reverse Motto die saw its first use in 1866, and continued to be used by the Mint for several years on proof varieties dated 1867 through 1870. The obverse had just one other use -- on the ultra-rare, famous 1866 No Motto variants, of which only two pieces are known. This example is sharply struck and attractive, with CAC endorsement. Census: 65 in 64, 22 finer. CAC: 10 in 64, 6 finer (3/19).
