Gem Proof 1866 Seated Dollar With Motto
Rare Deep Cameo Example
1866 $1 Motto PR65 Deep Cameo PCGS. The design of the Seated
Liberty dollar was adjusted in 1866 to include the motto IN GOD WE
TRUST on a banner on the reverse, making the date an important one
for type collectors. Only 725 proof specimens were struck, all for
inclusion in the proof sets. Surprisingly, three obverse dies were
prepared for this small mintage; this coin represents the scarcer
variety with the date slanting up to the right and a spine from the
top of the third leaf.This spectacular Gem exhibits profound cameo contrast between the deeply mirrored fields and the richly frosted devices. The design elements are sharply detailed throughout, and the well-preserved surfaces show a few hints of light gold toning. Population: 4 in 65 Deep Cameo, 3 finer (11/12).
