Description

1866 Motto Seated Dollar, PR66
Rich Colors

1866 $1 Motto PR66 NGC. With the exception of two specimens, all proofs of the 1866 Seated dollar are of the With Motto type, many of them delightful. This PR66 coin, despite not being awarded a Cameo designation, shows significant contrast on the obverse, though the light gold-gray patina draping that side deepens on the reverse and includes wide swaths of blue and violet-pink as well. Delicate frost covers strongly detailed devices, and the all-around preservation is solid. For the collector assembling a toned set, this specimen is hard to beat. Census: 5 in 66, 1 in 66 ★ , 2 finer (7/13).(Registry values: N7079)
