John Pittman's 1868 Seated Dollar, PR65
1868 $1 PR65 NGC. Ex: Pittman. A lovely, deeply reflective Gem proof that is characteristic of the type coin favored by John Pittman. While not an especially rare date, although the mintage of 600 proofs might belie it, this is superior example. The devices show pinpoint definition, and each side has mottled rose and blue toning. Just a bit of cameo contrast is seen on both obverse and reverse.Ex: Herdegen Sale (Hans Schulman, 12/1973), lot 999, where it brought $900; Pittman II (Akers, 5/1998), lot 1696, where it brought $7,700.(Registry values: N4719)
