1868 Seated Liberty Dollar, PR68 Cameo
Finest Certified 1868 Proof Dollar

1868 $1 PR68 Cameo NGC. Only five With Motto Seated Liberty dollars have been graded finer than PR67 by NGC and PCGS combined, and those five probably represent only three or four different coins (9/11). The specific coins are two 1866 dollars graded PR69 Cameo NGC, one 1866 dollar graded PR68 Cameo PCGS, one 1867 dollar graded PR68 NGC, and this 1868 dollar that is graded PR68 Cameo NGC. For Seated dollar connoisseurs, the available supply proof dollars at the highest grade levels is extremely limited. Less than 20% of all certified proof 1868 dollars are designated as Cameo or Ultra Cameo, further confirming the importance of this incredible specimen.
Both sides of this amazing specimen offer incredible eye appeal. The obverse has a peninsula of light silver, extending up to the left from 5 o'clock, surrounded on three sides by intense violet and blue toning. The reverse is mostly light pinkish-lilac, with deep blue peripheral toning limited to the rim, dentils, and tops of letters. The strike is spectacular, showing every detail to full advantage, with the sole exception being the top edge of the left (facing) wing. The fields are deeply and fully mirrored, surrounding the lustrous silver devices to create impressive cameo contrast. There are no noticeable contact marks or other imperfections on either side of this amazing Seated dollar. Census: 1 in 68 Cameo, 0 finer (9/11).(Registry values: N10218)
