Description

1869 Dollar, PR64 Deep Cameo
CAC-Approved, Russet Toned Beauty

1869 $1 PR64 Deep Cameo PCGS. CAC. OC-P1, High R.5. Osburn-Cushing Die State a/b, as always. Beach and golden-russet are interspersed with untoned areas. A few slight electric-blue and grape highlights are more prevalent on the reverse. Reverse weakness is once again counterbalanced by reverse strength and well-mirrored Deep Cameo surfaces.

While the mintage of 1869 did not increase, staying at the same 600 figure as 1868, they were spread over five die marriages instead of two. This coin is an example of OC-P1, the second scarcest die marriage of the year, with an estimated 45 survivors. This combines Reverse 1866 PA, offered here in its latest die state without the characteristic die lines in the motto, with Obverse P1, identified by the lump under Liberty's ear.

The Deep Cameo population is not much more plentiful for 1869, comprising only 6.4% of PCGS and NGC's combined certifications (1/25). This makes it a rare opportunity to obtain one of the best preserved examples of this year's proofs.(Registry values: N4719)
