Description
1869 Seated Liberty Dollar, PR64+
Stunning Deep Cameo Representative
1869 $1 PR64+ Deep Cameo PCGS. Only 600 proof Seated Liberty
dollars were struck in 1869, all for inclusion in the proof sets.
The sets were delivered at different times throughout the year, and
three different die combinations are known. This coin was struck
using the same reverse die used on proofs in the following year,
with some incomplete detail in the scroll due to lapping. Only a
handful of survivors have been certified above the PR64 level. The present coin is a high-end Choice specimen with richly frosted design elements that contrast profoundly with the deeply mirrored fields. Sharply detailed on the obverse, the reverse shows some minor incompleteness, due to die polishing, and some parallel striations in the lower portion that soften the detail on the eagle's left (facing) leg. The well-preserved surfaces show highlights of pale gold toning and eye appeal is terrific. Population: 7 in 64 (3 in 64+) Deep Cameo, 11 finer (6/16).(Registry values: N4719)
