Description

1870 Seated Dollar, PR61
Scarce OC-P2 Die Marriage

1870 $1 PR61 NGC. OC-P2, High R.4. Silver surfaces are highlighted wish splashes of russet, with that color forming a greater portion of the reverse patina. A small area of scratches at the right end of the reverse ribbon is the only notable region of abrasions. In 1870, the mintage reached four figures for the first time since 1861. Three die marriages exist, united by a common obverse die. The present OC-P2 is not the rarest of the year, but significantly less available than the most common. About 100 survive, compared to about 460 of OC-P1 and 40 of OC-P3.(Registry values: N1793)
