Description
Patinated Choice Proof 1870 Silver Dollar
1870 $1 PR64 PCGS. Although its published mintage is 1,000 pieces, "many were melted at year's end, making the [proof] 1870 scarcer than its mintage would indicate," per Duncan Lee in the August 11, 2006 CDN Newsletter. The reverse is lightly die doubled, as often seen on Motto proofs. Well struck save for the left (facing) claw, and toned golden-brown and sea-green. The left corner of the rock has a small lamination, as made. Population: 51 in 64, 22 finer (8/08).(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 252S, PCGS# 7018, GSID# 7337)
