1871 Seated Liberty Dollar, PR65 Cameo
Popular With Motto Proof

1871 $1 PR65 Cameo NGC. A relatively generous mintage of 960 proof Seated Liberty dollars was accomplished at the Philadelphia Mint in 1871, to accompany a substantial business-strike mintage of more than 1 million pieces. The Mint made a conscious effort to improve the quality of their proof issues after the Civil War and the later With Motto issues are seen more often with pleasing Cameo surfaces than their older No Motto counterparts. The present coin is a spectacular Gem, with stunning cameo contrast between the sharply detailed frosty design elements and the deeply mirrored fields. The well-preserved surfaces are mostly brilliant, with just a hint of pale gold toning. Census: 4 in 65 Cameo (1 in 65 Cameo), 3 finer (11/15).
