Description

1872 Silver Dollar, PR65+ Cameo
Diverse Original Toning

1872 $1 OC-P1, R.2, PR65+ Cameo NGC. Strong die doubling on IN GOD WE is characteristic of OC-P1, the sole proof 1872 die variety. Luxurious aquamarine, wheat-gold, and plum-red toning embraces this crisply struck and well-preserved Gem. Cameo contrast is apparent despite the rich patina. Only 950 proof Seated dollars were coined in 1872, and about 60% of the mintage has survived, typically in PR61 to PR64 grades. Proofs are rarer than business strikes for the date, since the commercial mintage exceeded 1.1 million pieces. NGC Census: 6 in 65 Cameo (1 in 65+), 4 finer (12/25).(Registry values: N4719)
