Description

1872 Proof Dollar, PR65+ Deep Cameo
Unusually Scarce With Mirroring This Bold

1872 $1 PR65+ Deep Cameo PCGS. CAC. OC-P1, R.2. Untoned silver devices are sharply contrasted with exquisite, blue-tinged mirroring. Strike is first-rate, with fully defined hair, star centers, and wing feathers, save for the lower left wing. The only notable abrasion is an old, thin scratch under star 13.

The 1872 Seated dollar sports the fifth highest proof mintage of the series at 950 coins. However, it has the lowest certified population in Deep or Ultra Cameo of the post-Civil War dates, with 8 certifications from PCGS and only 3 from NGC (3/25). This scarcity persists despite the lower mintages of the 1866-1869 dates, which are only about two-thirds the size of the 1872. This example is also CAC-approved, making it part of a small, elite group for collectors who require the best.
