Description

1873 Seated Dollar, PR64+ Deep Cameo
Last Year of the Design

1873 $1 PR64+ Deep Cameo PCGS. CAC. Profound contrast between the richly frosted devices and the highly reflective fields provides this high-end near-Gem with exceptional visual appeal. The brilliant surfaces are virtually untoned. As with almost all of the proofs from this issue, and those from 1871 and 1872, IN GOD WE displays doubling. Only 600 proof Seated Liberty dollars were struck in 1873, and it is likely that many were melted in July of that year when the weight was adjusted on the other silver denominations. The Seated Liberty design was retired after 1873 and the issue is always popular with type collectors. Population: 10 in 64 (3 in 64+) Deep Cameo, 4 finer (12/13).
