Description

1837 Seated Liberty Half Dime, PR63
Deeply Reflective Fields

1837 H10C No Stars PR63 PCGS. CAC. Proof 1837 Seated half dimes feature Large Date numerals that are curved along the bottom border and display a Pointed Top 1, as opposed to the less-curved, Flat Top 1 Small Date variety struck for circulation. An estimated 15 to 20 proofs were struck, all with dramatic triple punching on the date. Multiple punches on the 8 are clear, with two of the punches far off-target low and wide, while repunching on the other date digits is less severe but still easily viewed. A light hairline abrasion exists in the right field when viewed under a loupe, yet this piece offers plentiful eye appeal as suggested by the accompanying CAC approval. The PCGS estimate of 20 pieces known might be a trifle high according to the current population data. This example is a delightful Select proof with a needle-sharp strike. The fields are brightly reflective and essentially brilliant under faint glimmers of antique-gold and lilac toning. PCGS Population: 3 in 63, 5 finer. CAC: 3 in 63, 2 finer (7/25).(Registry values: P4)
