Description

Select Proof 1847 Seated Half Dime
Fewer Than a Dozen Pieces Minted

1847 H10C PR63 NGC. The 1847 proof Seated Liberty half dime was minted more than a decade before the Mint began its commercial offerings of proof sets, and no mintage figures were recorded. The number struck was certainly small, probably no more than 10-12 examples. The known specimens are all of the V-2 variety, with the tops of all the numerals in the date touching the base of the rock and heavy reverse lettering.
The present coin is a sharply detailed Select specimen, with fine detail showing on the stars, wreath, and bow. The surfaces are brightly reflective, and display vivid green and lavender patina. Census: 2 in 63, 4 finer (3/11).(Registry values: P4)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 235F, PCGS# 4423, Greysheet# 3872)

Weight: 1.34 grams
