1854 Arrows Half Dime, Toned PR65
Only 12 to 16 Proofs Believed Known
    Ex: Pittman

1854 H10C Arrows PR65 PCGS. CAC. The proof 1854 half dime is a rare and underappreciated issue, scarcer even than the certified population reports suggest. PCGS and NGC list a combined 24 grading events, which may reflect up to twice as many coins as are actually known. An estimate of 12 to 16 coins is not out of the question, although David Akers suggested as many as 15 to 20 pieces were extant. Any study of this issue's rarity must take into account that one piece is permanently impounded in the Smithsonian Institution.

The Pittman coin is one of only a small handful of pieces that exist in Gem or finer condition, and its quality is first-rate. The strike is bold and the fields exhibit glass-like mirroring. The obverse exhibits mottled amber-gold and olive toning overall, with deeper blue and violet hues also seen around the periphery. The reverse is more evenly colored with central shades of lavender-blue and peripheral olive-gold toning. The collector of pre-1858 proof silver would be hard-pressed to locate a finer example of this important rarity.

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
