    Description

    1856 Half Dime, PR64 Cameo
Only 30 to 40 Proofs Known
    Very Rare With Bold Contrast

1856 H10C PR64 Cameo PCGS. Breen-3078. Upright 5, Straight Top, Closed 6. Walter Breen estimated in his Proof Encyclopedia that perhaps 30 to 40 specimens "were around." That approximation holds true today. There are 22 proofs recorded at PCGS and 24 at NGC, including all designations and an unknown number of resubmissions. Cameo proofs are very rare, representing only 19.5% of certified examples. This near-Gem proof has bold cameo contrast on each side with pleasing lavender, orange, and ice-blue patination. A rare opportunity to obtain a pre-commercial era proof. Population: 2 in 64 Cameo, 3 finer (7/15).
    Ex: Stanislaw Herstal Collection (A. A. A., 2/1974), lot 132, flip included.(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 235L, Variety PCGS# 84434, Base PCGS# 84435)

    Weight: 1.24 grams

    Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
