First Year of the Legend Obverse Type

1860 H10C PR67 NGC. V-3. An untoned silver-white example of this first-year half dime issue, struck to replace the Stars Obverse half dimes and using the Cereal Wreath reverse, suggested by half dime specialist Harold P. Newlin for some 1859 pattern half dollars (e.g. Judd-247-25 inclusive) and adopted in 1860 for this denomination. This Superb Gem proof shows some die polishing lines but virtually no post-Mint defects. Census: 8 in 67, 0 finer (5/15).(Registry values: P2)
