Description

1860 Seated Half Dime, PR67
Splendid Toning and Preservation

1860 H10C PR67 PCGS. The Mint struck 1,000 proofs in 1860, an overly ambitious mintage in the early stages of selling proofs -- at a premium above face value -- to any willing customer. Many of the proofs went unsold and were melted at year's end. Thankfully, this Superb Gem example survived. It displays an attractive blend of mint-green, rose, and violet hues that overlay glassy-mirrored fields and frosted devices. Neither PCGS nor NGC report a numerically finer example. PCGS population: 5 in 67, 0 finer; 2 in 67 Cameo, 0 finer (2/18).(Registry values: P2)
