Description

Outstanding, Toned PR65 1860 Gold Label Half Dime

1860 H10C Seated Half Dime PR65 NGC. CAC (Gold Label). Similar to the three cent silver, 1,000 proofs were struck but only 535+ are believed to have survived after melting at year's end. This year marked the beginning of a new design for the half dime and dime, and proofs are a significant acquisition for type collectors. Close examination of this piece reveals why it merits a gold CAC sticker. The surfaces are essentially perfect, and frankly the coin appears undergraded. Even beneath the golden-rose and cobalt-blue toning on each side, there is a noticeable cameo contrast--while probably not strong enough to merit designation as such, it certainly adds an element of eye appeal.(Registry values: P2)
