Description

1866 Half Dime, PR67
One-Sided Cameo

1866 H10C PR67 PCGS. A mintage of 725 proof half dimes in 1866 was typical for the period, but the availability of survivors declines rapidly above PR64. In Superb Gem condition, the 1866 proof is a great rarity. This piece is tied with one other as the finest non-Cameo at PCGS (8/15). The strike is bold and the reverse displays stark field-device contrast amid warm champagne toning. The obverse is slightly subdued by dusky lavender-gray.(Registry values: P2)
