Description

1869 Half Dime, PR67
Rich Iridescent Toning

1869 H10C PR67 PCGS. CAC. Rose-gray, violet, and sea-green iridescence colors the well-preserved surfaces of this Superb Gem proof half dime. The relief elements are lightly frosted and the fields are brightly reflective, but the rich toning inhibits bolder contrast. Nevertheless, this is a highly appealing example. Half dime production returned to pre-Civil War levels in 1869, with the Mint striking 208,000 coins for circulation. Proof production remained steady at 600 examples, the same as the previous year. PCGS reports only two other PR67s and none finer, while NGC has encapsulated 10 non-Cameo coins in PR67 (one PR67 ) with one PR68 finer (8/15).(Registry values: P1)
