Description

Gem 1872 Half Dime, Cameo Contrast

1872 H10C Half Dime PR65 Cameo PCGS. Like the Shield nickel, in 1872 the half dime had a large business strike mintage and only a modest production run of proofs (950 pieces). The fields on this piece show noticeable striations (noticeable with a glass) which produced the depth of reflectivity seen here. Set against the deep fields are the frosted devices. Seldom found in Gem condition and seldom located finer. Population: 1 in 65 Cameo, 4 finer (8/10).
