Description

Impressive 1873 Half Dime, PR66 Cameo

1873 H10C PR66 Cameo NGC. Al Blythe, writing about the 1873 proof issue in his Seated Liberty half dime reference, indicates that "Many of the 600 proofs were melted ... in July 1873. There is no estimate of the survivors." We do know, however, that fewer than 50 1873 proofs have been given the Cameo designation by NGC and PCGS combined. This Premium Gem Cameo displays a thin veneer of champagne color, and profound field-motif contrast. Crisply struck throughout, and no significant marks. Census: 4 in 66 Cameo, 4 finer (8/07).(Registry values: P1)
