Description

1873 Half Dime, PR67 Ultra Cameo
Tied With One Other as Finest Certified

1873 H10C PR67 Ultra Cameo NGC. Closed 3, V-2. Breen's Proof Encyclopedia describes the variety as having the date low and close to the border, the shield point just left of the 1, the pendant just right of the serif of the 7, and the 1 with its left base above the right part of a denticle. On the reverse the right ribbon end is barely clear of the wreath above, while on the V-1 both ribbon ends touch the wreath.

This sharp, silver-white Superb Gem proof, one of 600 struck, boasts an overall flashy appearance, a combination of the stark black-on-silver contrast from the mirrored fields and deeply frosted devices. Tied with one other at NGC as the finest graded in Ultra Cameo, with no comparable specimens at PCGS (12/13).
Ex: ANA Milwaukee Signature (Heritage, 8/2007), lot 1609.
