1845 Seated Half, PR64 Cameo
Only Certified Cameo at PCGS or NGC
CAC Endorsement

1845 50C PR64 Cameo PCGS. CAC. The is one of just six certified proof 1845 half dollars at the two grading services. Our roster records eight different specimens. However, two of those have been absent from the marketplace for nearly 40 years and are possibly earlier appearances of others in the following roster. Another example is in the Smithsonian Institution. Heritage has handled five of the remaining examples, suggesting one duplication among those reported by the grading services. The Bowers Guide Book of Liberty Seated Coins (2016) estimates only three to six proofs were struck. Heritage believes six proofs survive, with possibly one or two more unaccounted for. A stray die chip appears below the left side of the 8, perhaps a diagnostic feature of proofs. The same die chip is visible on plates of five different examples. Several vertical shield lines cross numerous horizontal lines of the shield on the reverse.

This Choice Cameo proof displays bold field/device contrast accompanied by original amber-gold and cobalt-blue toning at the peripheries, accenting light-gold centers. Both sides feature fully mirrored fields accompanied by boldly defined, lustrous devices. A few trivial hairlines fail to detract from the overall beauty of this rare, near-Gem Cameo proof, which is the sole proof with designated Cameo contrast at either PCGS or NGC. CAC endorsement confirms high quality for the assigned grade. PCGS Population: 1 in 64 Cameo, 0 finer. CAC: 1 in 64, 0 finer (7/25).
