Description
1858 Seated Half, PR66 Cameo
Vibrant Eye Appeal, Great Contrast
1858 50C PR66 Cameo NGC. The 1858 proof issue was the first
proof Seated half dollar to benefit from wider, systematic
distribution by the Mint. Reportedly, 210 proofs were struck for
proof sets and an additional quantity may have been struck for
individual sale, resulting in a total proof mintage of 300+ coins.
It is doubtful that one could find a more beautiful proof 1858 half
dollar than this PR66 Cameo representative. Attractive blue and
gold borders surround snow-white central motifs providing bold
contrast between the glassy-smooth mirrored fields and the richly
frosted devices. The Mint's proof strike is pinpoint sharp and
there are no visual distractions whatsoever throughout the flashy
fields and fully struck devices. This coin is one of just four
Premium Gem Cameo examples certified by NGC. PCGS reports an
additional two MS66 Cameo examples plus one finer. NGC Census: 4 in
66 Cameo (in 66+ Cameo), 0 finer (7/25).From The High Oak Family Collection.
