Description
Choice Proof 1862 Half Dollar
Clapp-Eliasberg Pedigree
1862 50C PR64 NGC. CAC. Rich gold and orange shadings drape
a light silver-gray base on this gorgeous near-Gem proof, one of
550 specimens struck for the Civil War-era issue. The strike is
bold, and the potent mirrors show only a few minor faults. NGC has
certified just 34 numerically finer pieces (11/09). Per the
Eliasberg catalog:Ex: J.M. Clapp, probably before 1894; John H. Clapp; Clapp Estate, 1942, Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr.; The Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr. Collection (Bowers and Merena, 4/1997), lot 1991.
