Original 1866 Motto Seated Half, PR65
1866 50C Motto PR65 NGC. Original patina is deeper at the rims, in shades of gold, violet, and steel-blue, somewhat more intense on the obverse. As cited in the Breen Proof Encyclopedia, the obverse ("second variety") shows minute recutting at the top of the last 6, while the reverse displays RI and the two lower arrowheads joined, with "irregularities" in the last A. A popular type coin as the first of the Motto Seated halves, and an interesting variety. High-end for the grade.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 27TZ, PCGS# 6424, GSID# 6462)
