    Description

Pristine 1868 Seated Half, PR67 Cameo
    Fully Struck Example

1868 50C PR67 Cameo NGC. Despite the recorded proof production of 600 pieces in this Reconstruction-era year, Superb Gem examples of the 1868 Seated half are quite elusive in all contrast levels. NGC has certified four coins in PR67, with one PR68 finer. Those PR67s include two each in Cameo and Ultra Cameo, and the present Cameo piece is bettered only by a single PR67 Cameo example (3/11). This charming and historic coin should nonetheless be a star of many a collector's holdings, with a rim of rose color accenting the pristine silver-gold surfaces in the centers of each side. Some interesting missing details, as made at the Mint (and clearly in the master hub), appear at Liberty's sandal and the rock just beneath, and on the lower feathers of the eagle directly under the shield and the left (facing) wing. The strike as produced by the dies is nonetheless full throughout.

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato is the culmination of more than 10 years of research into the Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar series, one of the most coveted type coins in American numismatics and one about which remarkably little has been written.

This work will be the premier reference for 1796-1797 half dollars for years to come. Institutions having an extensive numismatic library or coin cabinet will find it a valuable complement to their holdings, and catalogers charged with writing up specimens for auction can now have an indispensable source of background and pedigree information. Likewise, coin dealers seeking to purchase one or more '96 or '97 half dollars for a client or for inventory, and collectors who own, have owned, or desire to own one will want this important reference work for their libraries.
