Challenging 1871 Gem Proof Half Dollar
1871 50C PR65 NGC. Proof half dollars of this date can be located with minimum difficulty through the near-Gem level of preservation. Gems, on the other hand, present a much greater challenge and finer pieces are quite elusive. Medium intensity toning consists of blue, purple, and gold colors. Some wispy hairlines mingle with die polish lines in the fields, but in no way detract. Census: 14 in 65, 8 finer (10/09).Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 27U6, PCGS# 6429, GSID# 6479)
