Description

1871 Half Dollar, PR65
Colorful Border Toning

1871 50C PR65 PCGS. JD-2, R.3. JD-2 shows lapping inside and below the bottom of the reverse shield. This 1871 Gem proof shows sharply struck motifs layered in butter-gold luster. The reflective fields display delicate gold toning bordered by amber and violet shades that cede to a thin band of dazzling electric-blue at the far obverse edges. The reverse employs the same color palette, although not quite as vibrant as the obverse. From a mintage of 960 proofs, PCGS reports only six finer examples in non-Cameo. PCGS Population: 16 in 65 (1 in 65+), 6 finer (5/26).
