Description

Essential Two-Year Type
1874 Arrows Half, PR64

1874 50C Arrows PR64 PCGS. WB-101, Small Arrowheads. It is curious that the Mint converted to the metric system in 1873 and the rest of the country still has yet to do so. The weight of half dollars was changed in that year from 12.44 to 12.50 grams and arrows were added to each side of the date to signify the weight change. Proofs of this design type are always highly sought after by collectors. This piece has bright sparkling, mirrored fields beneath speckled rose-russet toning on the obverse and pale rose color on the reverse. Few technical distractions are apparent on this near-Gem. Population: 57 in 64, 19 finer (10/09).
