Description

1884 50C PR64 NGC. A remarkable specimen with vivid violet toning around the devices. The devices are lightly frosted and, although this piece is not designated as such by NGC, there is lovely cameo contrast against the deeply mirrored fields. A few minor contact marks keep this piece from an even higher grade. The 1884 was part of a series of low mintage Philadelphia issues from 1879 to 1890. A mere 4,400 circulation strikes were minted, along with just 875 proofs.
