Description

1889 Seated Liberty Half, PR65
Vibrantly Flashy, Minimally Toned

1889 50C PR65 PCGS. A mere 12,000 circulation strikes were issued but the 1889 half dollar proof production was a near-normal 711 pieces. The only meaningful collector effect for those collectors who preferred proofs to high-grade regular "commercial coins." This Gem proof no doubt satisfied however many collectors owned it over the past 130+ years of its existence. Vibrant silver-mirrored fields are bounded by a thin band of blue and deep-gold patina. A thin veil of pale-gold toning does little to subdue the flashy fields, while impeccable central motifs are needle-sharp, providing bold frost-white contrast. PCGS Population: 14 in 65, 15 finer (3/26).
