Description

    1843 Seated Quarter, PR64
    Seven Examples Traced
    Tied for Finest at NGC

1843 25C PR64 NGC. Briggs 4-E. Pre-1858 proofs are rare, but the proof 1843 quarters are especially elusive. PCGS CoinFacts estimates only six to eight examples survive in all grades. Our research has identified seven distinct specimens, including one impaired example and another in the Smithsonian Institution. The present coin combines high technical quality, intense eye appeal, and absolute rarity in one extremely attractive package. The central design elements of this spectacular Choice proof are sharply detailed, but the stars on the left are a little flat. The rims are square and the edges flat. Vivid shades of autumn-brown, plum-red, and ocean-blue toning blanket the well-preserved surfaces. The fields are flashy throughout. Census: 2 in 64, 0 finer (11/15).
