Gorgeous Gem Proof 1854 Arrows Quarter
1854 25C Arrows PR65 NGC. Accounts of the precise rarity of the 1854 Arrows quarter proof issue vary to a certain extent, but all agree that it is very rare at a minimum, with no more than 12 to 15 known (according to David Akers, writing for the Pittman catalog in 1998) or around 10 known (according to Walter Breen). This is a desirable Gem specimen of its immensely challenging date. Light champagne toning graces beautifully mirrored fields and exquisitely struck devices alike. The reverse, which shows a degree of contrast, also shows a tiny contact mark between the M of AMERICA and the eagle's wing.
