Description

1855 Arrows Quarter, PR62
15 to 20 Proofs Struck

1855 25C Arrows PR62 PCGS. Briggs 5-E. Lavender and golden-orange centers progress to shades of violet and electric blue around the edges. As usual for the issue, a touch of peripheral softness occurs on each side. The lavish toning effectively hides any detracting contact marks without overly subduing the proof reflectivity in the fields.

Variety: Briggs 5-E. The downward sloping date has slanted 5s. The right edge of the 1 is positioned right of the sixth vertical line in the shield. QUAR. DOL. is lightly recut.

Population Data (9/15): This is the only PR62 example at PCGS with four submissions finer, including one PR65. NGC shows one coin in PR63, two each in PR64 and PR65, and one in PR66.

Heritage Commentary: Walter Breen, Larry Briggs, and CoinFacts agree that 15 to 20 1855 proof Seated quarters exist. Although this coin has the lowest grade among certified representatives, it remains a marvelous example of a very rare issue that might otherwise be unobtainable.
