    Description

    1856 Quarter, PR64 Cameo
    Very Scarce Pre-1858 Proof Striking

1856 25C PR64 Cameo PCGS. Upright 5. A rare pre-1858 Seated quarter proof, struck in an unknown but presumably small quantity; Larry Briggs put the number at "25+" in his reference. All are of the Upright 5 variety. This silvery piece shows much appeal and blatant contrast despite a few hairlines, scrapes, and other contact in the fields, none of it particularly bothersome. Original russet and steel-blue patina appears around the rims. The reverse appears close to a Deep Cameo designation. Of the couple of dozen proofs believed known of the 1856 quarter, this is one of only four pieces certified in PR64 Cameo by PCGS and none are finer (6/12).(Registry values: P2) (NGC ID# 23WH, PCGS# 85552)
