Description
Very Scarce 1857 Proof Seated Quarter
1857 25C PR 64 PCGS. The expanding demand for proof silver coinage led to dramatic increases later in the decade, but in this year production was limited to an estimated quantity of a mere 40 pieces, of which even fewer survive today. This is an unquestionable proof striking with deep, watery mirrors under a coating of violet and sea-green toning that lightens somewhat in the centers.
