Description

Toned PR64 Cameo 1859 Quarter

1859 25C PR64 Cameo NGC. Only 800 proofs were struck in 1859 and an unknown number were melted at year's end as unsold--apparently Director Snowden overestimated the collecting public's interest in proofs in the late 1850s. This piece shows noticeable frost over the devices, even through the multiple layers of toning that cover each side. The fields are also deeply reflective. An attractive proof striking of this scarcer proof quarter. Census: 3 in 64, 11 finer (8/07).(Registry values: P4)
