Description
Scarce Gem Proof 1859 Seated Quarter
1859 25C PR 65 NGC. This conditionally scarce early proof combines the old Type One obverse with the newly introduced Type Two reverse. Since many of the 800 proofs that the Philadelphia Mint originally coined are either impaired or were later melted as unsold, this Gem survivor only narrowly misses Condition Census status for the issue. Steel-gray toning blankets both sides in a somewhat mottled fashion while radiant blue and orange undertones are visible at select angles. Population: 12 in 65, 10 finer (5/00).Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 23WL, PCGS# 5555, GSID# 5285)
Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
Weight: 6.22 grams
